MSP Musical - bake it

For Intermediate Press Release

It’s time to “bake it”

Imagine Top Chef, Ace of Cakes and Dancing with Stars coming to Moorpark High. “bake it” the original musical-comedy written and produced by the students in the Musical Show Production class at Moorpark High, opens Thursday April 2nd and follows with a second performance on Friday April 3rd.

Musical Show Production is a unique concept at Moorpark High where the students write, cast and direct their own musicals. The class is a student-run class where most of the time goes to script writing, learning parts, blocking, choreography and singing. All this is done by a class of approximately 60 students. The program recently caught the attention of UCLA, where they showed interest in such a program themselves.

“bake it” is a concept of by Moorpark High senior Jesse Rueckert and junior Jennifer DeLeon, and written by the script committee under the direction of Rueckert and Alexa Mealer. It is the story of the annual Baltimore bake off where different bakeries compete to create the best cake. Like in every other musical, movie, or book, this show involves a love story and an intriguing plot.

In true Dancing with Stars style, the musical-comedy offers lots of hard work put into the dance numbers choreographed by Gillian Modlin, Katie Luke and their dance committee. The dance numbers of “bake it” recall all the splender of a Busby Berkeley musical.

The music committee headed by Jessica Gotsman and Alexa Zastrow, has written original lyrics to contemporary popular songs in context with the show and is delivered by many great voices from the students.

All this has been pulled together by our fantastic director Chelsea Maccani and producer Rachel Axelrad.

“bake it” is a review with lots of dancing, singing and fun. Come support Moorpark High School and the Musical Show Production class in what they do best, putting on a great show. Admission is $5 for students and $7 for adults. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7:00pm in the Performing Arts Center at Moorpark High School.
